As we journey through Paul’s Letter to the Roman’s, let’s reflect on the following question… What Christian Principles does Romans teach us and how can we apply those lessons to our lives today?

Theme Rm 1:16-17:  The Power of the Gospel

For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “The one who is righteous will live by faith.

Overview:

Paul is an apostle, a representative of the gospel, that gospel is good news expressing God’s power for salvation for those who believe. When Paul proclaims the gospel, God is present as the righteous God who is reclaiming the world from the power of sin that controls it. Those who believe have a restored relationship with God “through His Son Jesus Christ our Lord through whom we have received grace and apostleship”…Rm 1:4-5.

Week 2:  Celebrating Luther’s Reading of Romans

Romans became a turning point for Martin Luther, a teacher, writer, and reformer. Luther claims, “This epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament and is truly the purest gospel…It is a bright light, almost sufficient to illuminate the entire Holy Scriptures.” (Martin Luther’s Basic Theological Writings, second ed., Fortress, 2005, pp. 98-99).
