“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday September

  August 30 - September 27

“God’s work. Our hands.” is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.  GWOH Sunday is September 13, but we are going to celebrate “God’s work. Our hands.” September!

Since we cannot come together for our traditional day of service, we have a range of projects that allows everyone to get involved safely.

Please wear the GWOH “uniform” (GWOH t-shirt, RLC t-shirt, or Thrivent t-shirt) if you are doing any RLC-related service in September, including:

  • GWOH projects - buying donations, making pet beds, drawing pictures
  • Sunday worship assistants
  • Maintenance projects
  • Cover Girls
  • RLC activities on Zoom

… and send a picture of you serving to Becky Schuerman Choi (beckyschuerman@gmail.com) to be used for a presentation that will be shown during church service on October 4.

Need a uniform?  Come during our kick-off to pick up a Thrivent shirt.

All your questions answered!

Kick off on Sunday, August 30, 5:30-7pm

  • Drive-in communion at 6pm
  • Pet bed kits ordered in advance can be picked up
  • Accept donation drop-offs
  • Get a free Thrivent shirt if you need one
  • We will also need boxes so we can transport donations

Sunday, September 27, 5:30-7pm

  • Drive-in communion at 6pm
  • Drop off donations before and after communion
  • Wear the “uniform”

If you are unable to attend on September 27, please make arrangements with the office to drop donations off at another time before September 27.

Check back often as more projects will be added!

Donations can be dropped off during our kick-off on August 30, the grand finale on September 27, or you may contact the church office to arrange for a time to deliver your goodies.

Help restore dignity for our  homeless population with our donation drive for Streetside Showers (you can purchase online and have delivered to church, too):

  • Men's boxer briefs (all sizes)
  • Women's cotton bikini (all sizes)
  • Period products of all kinds (check out this podcast to find out why this is so important)
  • See sign-up form to volunteer to deliver donations to their office in McKinney

Donations are down, but the need has increased.  And this year Minnie’s partnered with Plano ISD to feed students during COVID-19!  Help them help our community through our food drive for Minnie’s Food Pantry:

  • Peanut butter and jelly (NOT in glass)
  • Spaghetti and spaghetti sauce
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Canned meat (Vienna sausages, tuna, chili, chicken, Spam)
  • Cereal
  • Bagged beans
  • See sign-up form to volunteer to deliver donations to their warehouse on September 30

Our furry friends need supplies, too!  Get crafty for Plano Animal Services:

Send some happy mail to RLC members who could really use some right now.  Write notes or draw pictures that will bring a smile to someone’s face and let them know that they are loved.  A great activity for kids AND adults!

Remember to check back for more projects!

Need another project?  Utilize these letter-writing templates to help you take action with other ELCA members to spotlight national attention on a just society that supports the health of all.  Bring your faith-based voice into our nation’s conversation and policy decisions on these important issues:

  • funding for food supports
  • fair-housing initiatives
  • mitigating the effects of climate change

The templates include the address to mail your completed letters sometime around GWOH Sunday (September 13).  Find names and addresses of your Representative and Senators at govtrack.us
