“Rooted in Faith; Growing in Grace”

We are celebrating 50 years of ministry and invite everyone to participate in this momentous milestone! We are celebrating all year but the primary festivities happen in late September:

  • Saturday, September 28 - Attend a concert and program in the evening featuring music directors, both past and present, and music commissioned just for us! Afterwards, enjoy a catered meal, memories and catching up with friends.
  • Sunday, September 29 – Our joyous worship service will feature clergy from our past, including Rev. Arlyn Tolzmann, our first pastor. An open house will follow.

FORMER MEMBERS

Hundreds of people have come and gone from our congregation, but we want to invite as many as possible to join us in our celebrations and reconnect with their former church family.  We plan to mail Save the Date cards very soon but need correct addresses.  If you are in contact with former members, please send their email mail address (preferred), or snail mail addresses to our committee at RLC50Anniversary@gmail.com.

APRIL SERVICE: CREATION CARE

“Serve” is one of the Guiding Principles of RLC, so part of our 50th anniversary commemoration will be monthly opportunities to actively care for our neighbors.

To celebrate 50 years of service, we are inviting the congregation to do service together every month. Our April community service project involves creation care - a pre-Earth Day litter cleanup on our campus and surrounding streets, creek, park and schools. We’ll provide the supplies, you provide an hour or two of your time to do some spring cleaning around the neighborhood on Sunday, April 21, starting at 8am. Please sign up so we have enough litter sticks for everyone.

In honor of Earth Month, we have a bonus activity planned! Ever wonder what happens with the items in your recycling cart? How is it sorted? Am I putting the right things in it? Are they really getting recycled? Join us for an eye-opening tour of the Plano Recycling Center on Thursday, April 25, at 10:30am to see it in action. Space is limited so sign up soon.

FUNDRAISERS

Throwing a party requires money. We do have some generous members who have volunteered to cover the costs of some items but we will need funds for food, transportation costs for VIPS, and expenses we may not even know about yet.

Help support this celebration directly with your monetary gift.  Click HERE.

Our next fundraiser may grow on you! We will be selling $20 vouchers that can be used at any of the three Cristina's Garden Centers to purchase a flat of annuals: alyssum, begonias, celosia, dianthus, dusty miller, impatiens, lobelia, marigolds, petunias, snapdragons, verbena and vinca. Vouchers will be sold on April 7 and April 14; must be redeemed by May 31. This is ideal for your gardens, Mother’s Day gifts and Memorial Day remembrances.

Bring your cans to church – monthly!  RLC’s heavy metal group – The Aluminati – is requesting your participation in our aluminum can collection that will help fund the 50th anniversary celebration.  Please bring your aluminum cans to the west door during the first weekend of every month.  Our delivery driver (Mark Waterman) will load up his truck after church on Sunday and transport donations to the scrap metal recycler on Monday morning.  Cans must be empty and dry and crushing them is helpful.

Please share any fundraising ideas, and in particular, events that would be attractive to people outside RLC!  RLC50Anniversary@gmail.com
