“Rooted in Faith; Growing in Grace”

We are celebrating 50 years of ministry and invite everyone to participate in this momentous milestone! We have been celebrating all year with special service projects, fundraisers, and summer potlucks when we “Cook the Books,” but especially look forward to our main events taking place on the last weekend of September.

Special guests confirmed for our weekend of celebration include former pastors:  Arlyn Tolzmann (preaching on Sept. 29), Scott Zimmerer, Walter Klockers, and Darrel Gilbertson; as well as former music directors:  Martin Morley and Alan Dyer.  Shelbie Simmons will join us on September 8.

Saturday, September 28

Our evening begins with a free concert and program in the Sanctuary featuring music directors, both past and present, and music commissioned just for us!  Afterwards, enjoy a catered meal by Little Rome, memories and catching up with friends.  A limited number of tickets will be on sale in person and online starting in early August; $10 adults / $5 children (ages 12 and under).  Childcare will be available.

Sunday, September 29

Join us in person or online for our joyous worship service featuring clergy from our past, including Rev. Arlyn Tolzmann, our first pastor.  An open house will follow in the Celebration Center.

FORMER MEMBERS

Hundreds of people have come and gone from our congregation, but we want to invite as many as possible to join us in our celebrations and reconnect with their former church family.  We plan to mail Save the Date cardsby the end of June but need correct addresses.  If you are in contact with former members, please send their email mail address (preferred), or snail mail addresses to our committee at RLC50Anniversary@gmail.com.

AUGUST SERVICE:  TRUSTED WORLD

Throughout the year we have been celebrating our 50th anniversary by giving back to our community.  Join us for the final service project sorting clothing donations at Trusted World!  Trusted World works with schools, police departments and nonprofits throughout the area to get food and clothing to people facing situational poverty.

Fifteen volunteers are needed on Friday, August 23, 10am-noon (check in at 9:45am).  The Trusted World warehouse is located in Garland so volunteers can indicate on the sign-up if they want to carpool from RLC.

Have a congregational service project idea for August?  Let us know!  RLC50Anniversary@gmail.com

FUNDRAISERS

Throwing a party requires money. We do have some generous members who have volunteered to cover the costs of some items but we will need funds for food, hotel and transportation costs for VIPS, equipment rentals, and expenses we may not even know about yet.

Help support this celebration directly with your monetary gift.  Click HERE.

We will soon start selling commemorative pewter ornaments for $10 featuring our 50th anniversary logo.  Thanks to a generous donor, the entire sale price goes towards our 50th fund!

Bring your cans to church – monthly!  RLC’s heavy metal group – The Aluminati – is requesting your participation in our aluminum can collection that will help fund the 50th anniversary celebration.  Please bring your aluminum cans to the west door during the first weekend of every month.  Our delivery driver (Mark Waterman) will load up his truck after church on Sunday and transport donations to the scrap metal recycler on Monday morning.  Cans must be empty and dry and crushing them is helpful.  Additionally, we may accept other valuable scrap metal such as copper and brass.   Please talk to Mark Waterman about these materials.

Stay tuned for info about a possible commemorative t-shirt

Please share any fundraising ideas, and in particular, events that would be attractive to people outside RLC!  RLC50Anniversary@gmail.com

The 50th anniversary planning committee members are Rita Fischer, Bill Fisher, Jan Frum, Craig Hildebrand, Gayle Lind, Adam Schroeder, Becky Schuerman Choi, Beth Smith, Sue Willette.
