September 29, 2024

On March 24, 1974, a meeting was held for people interested in joining a new Lutheran church in Plano, followed by the first worship service on April 7 at Christie Elementary School.  Resurrection Lutheran Church became a chartered organization of the Lutheran Church of America on September 29, 1974, with 243 baptized members.  In 2024 we celebrate our 50 years of ministry and invite everyone to participate and celebrate this momentous milestone!

Hundreds of people have come and gone from our congregation, but we want to invite as many as possible to join us in our celebrations and reconnect with their former church family.  We plan to mail Save the Date cards very soon but need correct addresses.  If you are in contact with former members, please send their email mail address (preferred), or snail mail addresses to our committee at

A book detailing our creation and the first 25 years of RLC was published in 1999, which is available here for your reading pleasure.  Naturally, we would like a follow-up volume that tells our story over the past 25 years.  If you enjoy research and writing, please join our committee!  We also welcome members who might be subject matter experts willing to contribute information about specific ministries, events, activities, etc.

Any good history book needs pictures!  If you have some that should be included, please share.

“Serve” is one of the Guiding Principles of RLC, so part of our 50th anniversary commemoration will be monthly opportunities to actively care for our neighbors.

Our March service project will be food packing at Feed My Starving Children in Richardson on Monday, March 11, 7-9pm.  We have reserved FIFTY volunteer spots!  See the sign-up form for more information about expectations, volunteer ages, and policies or read their FAQs.

Another way to serve RLC and get ready for our celebrations is to help with some spring cleaning of the Sanctuary, Chapel, and Narthex on Saturday, March 2, 9am to 1pm. We built this building so we as a church could worship and serve God, and part of our stewardship is caring for it. See the sign-up sheets in the Narthex to volunteer!

Have congregational service project ideas?  Let us know!

Throwing a party requires money. We do have some generous members who have volunteered to cover the costs of some items but we will need funds for food, transportation costs for VIPS, and expenses we may not even know about yet.

Help support this celebration directly with your monetary gift.  Click HERE.

Bring your cans to church – monthly!  RLC’s heavy metal group – The Aluminati – is requesting your participation in our aluminum can collection that will help fund the 50th anniversary celebration.  Please bring your aluminum cans to the west door during the first weekend of every month.  Our delivery driver (Mark Waterman) will load up his truck after church on Sunday and transport donations to the scrap metal recycler on Monday morning.  Cans must be empty and dry and crushing them is helpful.

There are several individuals who have been instrumental in our church’s history whom we sincerely want to join us in our 50th anniversary celebrations in September 2024.  As we contact these people, we have discovered that they, too, would cherish participating in the festivities but would require some assistance to make it happen.  If you have any frequent flyer miles or points that you would be willing to donate towards VIP transportation, please contact Jan Frum (

Please share any fundraising ideas, and in particular, events that would be attractive to people outside RLC!

The 50th anniversary planning committee members are Rita Fischer, Bill Fisher, Jan Frum, Craig Hildebrand, Gayle Lind, Adam Schroeder, Becky Schuerman Choi, Beth Smith, Sue Willette.
